There are so many lotions and creams out there touting therapeutic and healing properties, but along with that you are usually getting chemicals to extend shelf life, synthetic fragrances for a lower price point, and comedogenic ingredients that our skin doesn’t absorb well as a filler base. Sometimes the result is actually the opposite of what you want. So what do you do?
Make your own! With a few ingredients you can get exactly what you want and need and know it’s 100% natural.
Base Ingredients:
1 cup Shea Butter (available here)
¼ cup magnesium oil
¼ cup coconut oil
Lavender or Biofreeze depending on need (see options below)
Shea Butter
It’s all about the base with Shea Butter. Loaded with vitamins A & E, it works to repair damage. It’s non-comedogenic and the fatty acids help retain moisture.
Magnesium Oil
If you read my article on magnesium lotion, you know that magnesium supports detoxification, relieves aches and pains, helps mood, improves sleep, and relieves stress.
Coconut Oil
What can’t this oil do? We are seeing this miracle oil used everywhere from cooking to whitening teeth. On the skin, it acts as a softener, exfoliant, anti-aging agent, and helps with tissue repair.
With either lavender or Biofreeze, you can customize it (see below) to help get a better night's sleep or soothe sore muscles. Whip this up with a handheld mixer and apply it everywhere. You’re going to absolutely love it.
Customizable Options
*For a better night’s sleep, add 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Lavender aids in relaxation, reduces anxiety, and relieves stress. Not to mention it smells heavenly.
*To help with sore muscles add ½ ounce (15 ml) Biofreeze. Biofreeze contains natural soothers and anti-inflammatories such as Aloe, Arnica and Green Tea. It's available here. Contact our chiropractors team to find out more information.
